No. Screenwriter was inspired in many ways by the amazing work that is the fountain screenwriting syntax, but that’s not what this is. We definitely borrow a few conventions, but the biggest difference is probably ending the need to hold Shift or toggle Caps Lock on and off for sluglines and character names over dialogue, which are two things that happen a lot in screenwriting. You just write in whatever case feels most comfortable (lower case feels nice on my fingers but don’t let me boss you around) and Screenwriter will understand how to format it correctly. It really is the promise of just write, delivered.

You don't need hundred dollar software programs to output a screenplay document at some fictional higher standard. Scripts are read and passed around and optioned and purchased and produced entirely on the merits of the words on the page. So long as those words are presented in industry-standard formatting, they'll pass the initial sniff test regardless of what software your screenplay was written in.
